How to Increase Page Rank

What is Page Rank?

If you're involved in SEO, or have the Google Toolbar installed in your browser, chances are you'll have come across Google page rank.

Google Page Rank basically a score for your website out of 10 based upon how important Google think you're page is in the whole scheme of web searchery.

By important, Google means how many people link to your page, the more pages there are, the more relevant your page must be.  But that's not quite it, it's no good having thousands of links to your page if they're not important pages themselves, so in turn, it is also determined by the quality of the pages that link to you.

Google themselves say the importance is made up of over 500 million variables and 2 billion terms, whilst Wikipedia have a "simplified" algorithm that in my opinion is anything but,  mind you, math was never my forte.

In a nutshell, more quality links = higher page ranks.  Like with many SEO techniques, Google page rank alone will not guarantee you a high ranking, but it will help, it's more than likely that pages with a lower page rank will appear above yours if they have managed to crack other areas of SEO.

Rest assured though, if you have a number of quality links to your page, it's SERP (search engine results page) ranking will improve along with its page rank, which will do you no harm at all in the SEO world.

Realistically speaking, as a small business owner you should probably be aiming for a score of around 2 or 3 once you're site is established in the Google.  High scores of 7 or above to be reserved for the big players, such as Microsoft, Apple and Google themselves (the google home page gets 10)

Page Rank Inbound/Backlink Implementation

The page rank of a page depends on the number and page rank metric of all pages that link to it. A page that is linked to, by many pages with high page rank receives a high rank itself. Implementing BackLinks from other high page rank sites will determine the popularity or importance of your website and result in a higher ranking in Google.
Our team at Search Engine Partner will look at your firm's current website, search engine presence, and the competitive landscape of the internet for your targeted clients. We will then decide the best strategy for accomplishing both your short and long term goals. Campaigns are completely customized to every client.
Campaigns may start out with a very narrow match keyword assignment, while others target both broad and narrow match keyword phrases. Direction of all campaigns is determined by the factors listed above, budget, and how much revenue your firm is generating from your search marketing efforts. We perform only "white hat" techniques utilizing a thematic optimization methodology according to industry approved best practices. We do not use any "black hat" tactics such as link farming, cloaking, spamming, keyword or content stuffing. We incorporate all aspects of the best aspects of the most effective industry standards to develop and implement strategies in both organic and paid searches. In doing this, we can achieve both short and long term goals in some of the following areas:

Linkbait Formulation
Linkbait is the website content that targets link-friendly audiences. Its goals include high levels of traffic, visibility, branding, and numerous links; having many relative links to your site increase page rank and assist your site with moving up in Google.

Inbound Link Popularity and Diversity Strategy Formulation
We search out relevant websites for your website to exchange links with. We will find back links with high ranking sites and link your site as well the targeted websites on the first five pages of Google's search result page.  We will form strategic alliances with quality websites that will point to targeted websites and yours. This will improve the internal link structure of the site in all areas and will give a higher page raking. A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself.

Keys to Search Engine Ranking

Google uses dozens of factors to determine which site will rank highest for specific keywords. The primary ranking factors that we evaluate from an overall perspective are the following:

Backend Coding (what the robots see)
The way the code is written and how certain elements are used to build relevancy for keywords is essential in a search engine marketing plan. Some of the code elements include META tags, site accessibility tags like XHTML attributes, CSS, XML sitemaps, JavaScript, dynamic content like PHP and general code cleanliness.

Website Architecture
The structure of the website is critical to achieving search engine rankings for two reasons. First, it is important to make sure that your pages and content are being indexed (consistently crawled) by the search engine spiders. Second, the manner in which pages link together, especially the use of text links, is critical to help build relevancy for keywords. If this may be seen as being done by an engineer, the code of the website above is done by engineers.

SEO Copywriting
Search engine algorithms are placing more importance than ever on the text content on the website. If a site is aiming to rank for specific keywords and phrases, it is critical that the site have readable text content that incorporate those keywords or phrases. Mentioning a targeted phrase one time in the text is not sufficient.

Link Popularity
Google measures the popularity of your website by the amount and quality of websites that are linking to your site. If your site does not have competitive link popularity, it will not achieve top rankings for keywords. We will look at the sites that are consistently ranking for your desired keywords, and make sure that we build enough in-bound link popularity so that your site can compete for rankings.

What are Robots, Spiders, WebAnts, and Worms?

If you own a website you need to understand how data collecting companies find and explore your website. Once you understand the basics you can easily master tools to see who is visiting your site and how to stop malicious robots from hacking into your site.

It is also important to understand what robots are so that you can create meta data and optimize your website to keep robots coming back and re-indexing your site.

Spiders, ants, and worms, oh my! What are they and what do they do?

Robots is a catch-all, or generic term for programs and automated scripts that “crawl” through the web (the Internet) and collect data from websites and anything else on the Internet that they can find.
  • Spiders: Spiders are the same thing as robots and the terms can be used interchangeably.
  • Worms: Worms are robots but are distinguished because worms are replicating programs (unlike other robots).
  • Web crawlers: Web crawlers (or, webcrawlers) are also the same as robots. Note: WebCrawler is a specific robot.
  • WebAnts (web ants): Webants are cooperating robots that share and distribute information. Ants that find information share their data so other ants do not have to explore the same file.
Who Uses Web crawlers and Robots?
  • Hackers: To find ways in attack or take over your website. A great way to have your website hacked is to use out-of-date software and web applications that may have security breaches. Hackers often use worm robots.
  • Spammers: Mass marketers and spammers look for email addresses on websites, forums, blogs, social networks, etc. using robots.
  • Search Engines: To crawl your website to collect data and index it. Search engines look at meta data and content as well as other information about webpages using robot technology.
  • Webmasters: To study competing sites and their own site. Webmasters also study logs of who is crawling their site and how often to fine tune SEO and robot.tx files (a file that allows, restricts, or forbids robots from crawling your site). Every website should have a robot.txt file!!

Understanding What SEO Does for a Website ?

To understand why search engine optimization (SEO) is so important, you need to know what SEO does for a website.

If you needed to hire a new manager for your office you would let people know about the opening by advertising. An ad in the paper would probably include the positions' title, job description, and how to contact you. It might also state how not to contact you (i.e., no phone calls.)
Meta data, code, and certain files (i.e. robots.txt) provide similar information to robots including what the website is about, where you are located, and instructions on how often, and what robots should or should not read.
A robot is what search engines (and other information gathering companies) use to find your site, analyze it, and then decide what to do with it (ignore it, ban it, or index it).
Think of SEO as advertising your site to search engines. To appear in search engine search query results you have to accomplish three things:
  • Search engines have to find your website;
  • Search engines have to crawl the site, understand it the way you want them to so you have better control over how it is indexed (classified); and
  • Promote your site in a way that matches how people search for information.
Robots - Make Them Your Friends

The Internet search engine process is not run by people. It is run by robots (spiders, webcrawlers, worms, and webants) that (hopefully) visit your site and try to understand and index it. If your site is not indexed, it will not show up in search engines. Period.
A site with good SEO attracts robots and provides instructions, descriptions, and content that robots can understand, analyze, and assign relevance to. A site with no, or poor SEO will either get ignored, or worse - tagged as spam or blacklisted.

Why On-Page SEO Is Important ?

On Page Seo :-

On-page SEO is an important part of your overall search engine optimization strategy.On-Page optimization is absolutely necessary if you intend to improve your site’s visibility in the search engine results.
Any work you do to optimize each page of your site will have a direct impact on what is shown in search engine results pages. It can also play a huge part in the level of traffic your site receives from search engines.
Obviously, a site’s content is going to play an integral role in on-page SEO, so this should be a primary focus. However, there are multiple other elements that can be adjusted and tweaked to increase results as well.

On-Page SEO Checklist

1. Content :-
our content needs to be relevant to your niche. It also needs to be keyword-rich without sounding unnatural.Try to ensure your content is between 700 and 1,200 words per piece. Longer pieces are also excellent for helping you accidentally rank for unintentional long-tail keywords.

2. Keyword Density:-
There is much debate about what the best keyword density on a web page should be. However, around 2-4% seems to be around the correct density to rank well. This is around 14 mentions of your precise keyword in a 700 word article, including mentions in the title and sub-headings.

3.Bold/Underline/Italics :-
Throughout each article you write, you need to highlight your keyword in bold, underline and italics at least once each. Google’s Spiders will consider these highlighted words as having some importance, which can assist SEO efforts further.

4.Title Tags :-
Your title tag is the main title of your content that shows at the top of your page. It’s important your chosen keyword is within the title tag. If you can, you should also choose a long-tail keyword to show in the title.
<title>Main Keyword, followed by long tail keyword </title>

 5. Meta Keyword Tags :-
The meta keywords may not show on your site at all, but Google’s Spiders can see them perfectly.
<meta name=”keywords” content=”Primary Keyword, long-tail keyword”>

6. Meta Description Tags:-
When you see listings of websites in search engine results, you’ll also see a short description beneath the anchor-text title of the site and the link. This description is taken from the description tags on your website. The description is your opportunity to entice visitors to your site, so make it interesting.
<meta name=”description” content=”Interesting description that draws people to click on your link, including your keyword”>

7. Header Tags :-
When you write your site’s content, you should have broken up the flow by using sub-headings, as mentioned in the content section. Where possible, these subheadings should be highlighted using Header Tags (H1, H2, H3).
Ideally, you should use all three header tags throughout the body of the content at least once each. Try to ensure that the phrases and words you use aren’t identical to the one used for the Title tag. Change them up a bit, but still include your primary and secondary keyword where possible.

8. Correctly Naming Image Alt Tags :-
When Google’s Spiders crawl your page, they see your code and your content, but they can’t see images. Even though you might have very descriptive images on your site that appeal to your visitors or explain your niche perfectly, they’re no good to you for SEO purposes if Google can’t see them.
Rename any images you choose to use with a variation of your keyword. If you have a site about dog training and you include a picture of a dog sitting obediently, name this image “dog-training-guide.jpg”.
Wherever possible, use the Alt tags to add a description of that image that includes your keyword. This way, Google can actually see the alt tag code and will count that extra keyword usage towards relevance for search terms.
<img src=”yoursite.com/dog-training-guide.jpg” alt=”dog training guide”>

9. Update Your Sitemap (only if you’re not using WordPress):-
If your website was created without using WordPress, you will want to update your sitemap regularly. You can use XML Sitemaps to do this for you (www.xmlsitemaps.com). Upload the file it creates for you to your site’s root direction and then submit the link for the file to Google at their Webmaster Tools section.

What is White Hat SEO & Black Hat SEO ?

Types of SEO is here to explain the difference between good and bad search engine optimization (SEO) to those who are not familiar with it.

White Hat SEO  :- White hat SEO, as the name suggests, is clean and wholesome, and the type of search engine optimization service most businesses would want for their website.
White hat SEO tactics, techniques, and strategies are those which adhere to guidelines set by the search engines, and involve no deception. White hat search engine optimization merely seeks to provide the most search engine friendly presentation of useful content which is inherently valuable and specifically designed for human consumption. Another important characteristic of white hat SEO is that it cannot generate great results for poor quality content.

Black Hat SEO  :- Black hat SEO, as you may have already guessed (assuming you read the part about white hat SEO) is the evil brother. It is slick, talks a fast game, and can get you on the top ten list for a while, but your website, and ultimately you, may end up paying a very high price for letting the evil brother be your guide.
Black hat SEO, unlike its wholesome kin, uses tricks, schemes, and games to circumvent the algorithmic barriers set up by the search engines to prevent bad content from gaining high rankings in the search engine result pages (SERPs).
Black hat SEO is not to be mistaken for plain bad search engine optimization which is the result of either lack of knowledge or cutting corners.

Bad SEO :-

Bad SEO is not necessarily black hat; however, it can be just as damaging to your website in the long run. Bad search engine optimization is usually the result of taking shortcuts and picking services based only on price. Here are some signs to help you find figure out if you are having bad SEO done (or about to be done) to your website:
  • The SEO (search engine optimizer) guarantees top ten results in search engines
  • The SEO promises hundreds of new links for your website each month
  • The SEO promises dozens of new articles for your site per month (at an unusually low price)--this usually means they are being written in developing countries where the writers’ native language is not English)
  • Your website is being optimized for over 100 keywords but is only comprised of six pages (that you know of)
  • The SEO promises to submit your website to the search engines on a monthly basis so that your pages will not get de-indexed
  • You are told that the content of your website will be rewritten with the ‘optimal’ keyword density in mind.
  • You are offered 300 ‘spun’ versions of the same article for publication across the web
  • You are promised the optimization of the (all important) keyword meta tag for all of your web pages
  • You are offered three full-time link development technicians for $1000 (or pick your own ridiculously low dollar-amount) per month
